- Seek out and complete an executive protection training program. Many people believe that one can become a bodyguard without the proper skill sets and specific training, however, there is no substitute for attending an executive protection training program.
- Work on your technical skills and equipment proficiency. There are specific tools of the trade that you need to learn such as how to conduct an advance and operational work, how to use Microsoft Office, GPS and online map services, and tactical medicine for executive protection professionals.
- It is important for one to realize that a career as an executive protection agent is not as glamorous as it seems. It is important that one learns the non-glamorous parts of the job such as how to conduct an advance, route assessments, halls and walls, how to hunt a predator, how to run a solo detail and be an integral part of a team.
